I have been slacking off lately as far as getting outdoors goes. With the cold weather and the fact that I just turned 70, my motivation just hasn’t been there lately. So I wanted to post some places that I want to hike or backpack this year. If anyone wants to joint me, you can either leave a comment or contact me via the

on this site.

TBD- Seneca Creek Greenway Trail between Watkins Mill RD & Kingfisher RD near Germantown, MD– 6.5 miles, linear, easy to moderate. This one has been rescheduled for some time in March, 2024.

TBD, Perimeter Trail at Beaverdam Reservoir, Ashburn, VA- 7.6 miles, loop, moderate to difficult. Portions of this trail are currently closed due to construction of new park facilities at the southeast corner of the loop. These facilities are supposed to open in Spring, 2024. As soon as I get that date, I’ll post it here.

TBD, Biscuit Run Park, between Charlottesville and Scottsdale, VA– Numerous trails. I would like to hike the Biscuit Run Trail from the park to the intersection with I64. The park is supposed to open in the fall of 2024. I’ll post more info here as I receive it.

TBD, Rivanna Loop Trail, Charlottesville, VA I’ve done two different 3 mile up & backs along this trail. One at around the 9:00 position and one around the 3:00 position. If we had two vehicles, we could do a 6-8 mile stretch at one time and eventually do the entire 20 mile loop.

June 11, 2024, Backpacking Trip along the Greenbrier River Trail near Caldwell, WV. 25 miles, linear, easy, one overnight. I want to get at least one overnight backpacking trip in this year. If we get a few people for this one, those that want to can just day hike a portion and those that want to camp overnight in one of the tent areas can do so also. If no one shows I will either hike in 9.1 miles, camp and hike back out the next day or bike pack 25 miles in, 25 miles back out.

TBD, Prince William Forest Park, Triangle, VA– They are supposed to relocate sections of the North and South Valley Trails at least 50 feet back from Quantico Creek North and South Branches due to erosion. If they haven’t done this yet I do know of two relocations of the North Valley Trail that have been “flagged” In other words, there are orange flags or streamers set up for their relocations already. If we have at least two vehicles, we could either knock out the entire 8 mile stretch or do a 5 mile stretch between the Farms to Forest Trail and Burma RD or a 3 mile stretch between Burma RD and the Lake One Trail.

TBD, Fredericksburg Quarry Area, VA– This is an area along the Rappahannock River west of I95 and just north of the city of Fredericksburg, VA. I’ve hiked in from both ends but have never hiked the entire 6 mile stretch. I’ll need a second person with a vehicle to do this one. Any takers?

I will also be doing some hikes this year with:

Shenandoah Valley Take A Hike Group– This group likes to traipse up and down mountains in the Shenandoah Valley. Most of their hikes, in my humble opinion, are a bit extreme. But there are some that aren’t.

Greater Prince William Trails Coalition– This group hikes on the third Sunday of the month somewhere within Prince William County, VA

I will also try to do some bike trips this year. Again, if anyone would like to join me, please let me know.

Mike C
