This process started about a year ago. I was having two issues on mikecalabrese.xyz: My SSL cert was not configured properly and my outgoing emails were bouncing. I tried contacting my hosting service at that time but they were in the process of rolling out two factor authentication and were slammed support call wise.
I had to wait on the phone for two hours and when I did get through the techs could not solve my problem. After spending countless hours on the phone over a three month period and getting nowhere I knew that I had to move my hosting service. In July, just for the heck of it, I tried doing a search for the domain mikecalabrese.com that I had from 1999 through 2010. It was available. So I grabbed it, got a new WordPress web site through my current hosting service, linked that domain to this new site and started building this site out.
It took me about six months to get everything that I wanted saved off of the old web server and placed selected things as well as build new things on the new web server. That process was completed in December, 2023. Finally, this morning, Friday, January 12, 2024, I flipped the switch and mikecalabrese.xyz is now redirecting to mikecalabrese.com . Most of the time. So the migration process is over.
So far, so good with the new site. I enjoy working with WordPress, though the plugins have been a bit problematic. And I am getting occasional timeouts on the site during the late morning and early evening hours. But technical support so far has been very good with this new provider. Now I have this site for 2.5 more years. What will happen in July, 2026? I’ll make that call around that time. But for now, all is good web site wise.
