Recap of Rivanna Loop Trail Sections Hiked

I became interested in the 21.5 mile Rivanna Loop Trail around Charlottesville, VA in 2023. So I started doing day hikes of different sections of this trail over the next 3 years. What follows is a list of the sections that I did and when I did them. Theer are also links to the various trip logs. I will also include some information about parking at trailheads, camping and hotel information:

Section 1, 08/13/2023,  Rivanna Loop Trail between Barracks and Ivy RDS, Charlottesville, VA

Section 2, 11/14/2023, Rivanna Loop Trail between Riverside Park and VFW Field, Charlottesville, VA

Section 3, 07/01/2024, Rivanna Loop Trail between US250 and Fontaine Research Center, Charlottesville, VA

Section 4, 07/21/2024, Rivanna Loop Trail between Azalea Park and Jordan Park, Charlottesville, VA

Section 5, 10/23/2024, Rivanna Loop Trail between Azalea Park and UVA Fontaine Research Center, Charlottesville, VA

Section 6, 11/25/2024, Rivanna Loop Trail between Woolen Mills to Jordan Park, Charlottesville, VA

(Coming Soon)

As a disclaimer, I drove or was driven along the following road walk portions of this trail: Old Ivy RD and US250, Avon St EXT, Paletine and 6th ST; Riverside Park to Woolen Mills, River RD to Locust AVE.

Parking: I parked at the Barracks RD Shopping CTR to do Section 1. Many spaces available; I parked at Riverside Park to do Section 2. There are numerous parking spots but this park is crowded, especially on weekends; I parked partially in the driveway and partially in the street of US250 at the UVA Police Department to do Section 3. I wouldn’t recommend parking here; I parked at Azalea Park to do Section 4 as well as Section 5. Lots of parking available; I parked at the Woolen Mills complex to do Section 6. Lots of parking here; And I again parked at the Barracks RD Shopping CTR and took an UBER to do Section 7.

There are numerous motels/hotels to stay at in C’ville. I didn’t check on B&B’s, Air B&B’s or Vrbos. And as for camping there are about a half dozen campgrounds within 20 miles of Charlottesville but nothing very close to the Rivanna Loop Trail.

I will go back to Charlottesville at some point this year and hike the 1.7 miles that I didn’t do in March, 2025.
