This RV camping trip took place between May 14-17, 2026. It was sponsored by:

The Potomac Dogwoods

and was hosted by Steve/Gloria Glaze and Bob/Sharon Walters. Julie R & I attended this one.

Thursday, 05/14/2026- We arrived at Misty Mountain Camp Resort a bit after 3:00 PM. It was a windy but chilly day with temps only in the mid 50’s. We got set up, walked around the campground and just chilled that day. I had a check engine light come on while making this trip. I had an ODB2 scanner and determined that it was a P193 code. That translated to excessive voltage from the fuel rail sensor. The fact that I could clear this error with the scan guage tells me that the sensor itself may be bad. That’s another repair that I’ll have to schedule. It was a cold night. Temps in the 40’s. But the heat in our RV called The Breeze worked well.

Friday, 05/15/2026- We did a lot today. We took a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway south of Waynesboro, VA. We stopped at an overlook and then at the visitor’s center around mile 10. It was nice. Again, the weather was more fall like than spring like. We then drove into Waynesboro and got some fancy rolls at Bonobos Bakery. Julie got a Butter Cream Roll and I got a Bacon Cheddar Roll. They were expensive but very good. During the day other members from our group arrived and we went to Blue Mountain Brewery and Restaurant and had a fantastic dinner. I had a Kilsch 151 beer along with a side salad and a shrimp roll. Very good! By the way, we had seven rigs show up for this campout.

Saturday, 05/16/2026- We had a group breakfast, then I led a group hike of the Blue Ridge Tunnel. We had 11 campers do this hike. It was fun. We then chilled the rest of the day and then had a group dinner. Our hosts made hamburgers and hot dogs and the rest of us contributed various side dishes. We contributed one of those variety cheese cakes from the local Walmart. We had some issues with the power pole at our campsite. Originally, it did not work. I went to test one of the outlets with a VOM and it arc’d, then started working. The power went out again in the evening. I was able to restart it by turning the breakers off and then on again. I reported this issue to the camp office twice but no one showed up to look at it.

Sunday, 05/17/2026- We had a leftover group breakfast, said our goodbyes and headed home. Gas was more expensive in the Charlotesville to Waynesboro area and was as high as $4.37 a gallon. But Julie found some at Walmart Gas in Waynesboro for $4.13. I was lucky in that I made it from Manassas, VA to Greenwood, VA and back again on a full tank in our RV called The Breeze. Our 21 year old RV did well on this trip. Below are my Pros and Cons for this campground:

Pros- Friendly staff, good WiFi, well stocked camp store, clean bathrooms, live entertainment, on site trash pickup, cabins and tent sites available, lots to do nearby, lots of amenities like horse shoes, bounce house, etc.

Cons– Poor OTA TV reception, no cable/satellite TV, power pole issues.

I had to wrestle with this one. I was deciding between 3 and 4 stars. This is a nice campgrond that is moderately priced. However, with the power pole issues that I had as well as the fact that the majority of power poles in the resort looked like they were past their prime, I’ll have to give this campground 3 stars this time.
