It looks like the transition from the mikecalabrese.xyz LAMP site to the mikecalabrese.com WordPress site is about 33% complete. The major work that needs to be done includes adding about one hundred products to the store, adding about one hundred 728 x 90 ad banners to the store, adding somewhere around 200 advertisers’ privacy and cookie policy links to the site privacy policy, copying ten trail distance calculators, figuring out how to upload an XML file to this site and setting up Random Image and Random Text web apps.
This has been a fun but challenging experience so far. I have had to learn the WordPress Gutenberg Editor as I am building out this site. I’ve also had some hits and misses with the various WordPress plugins that I have added to this site. One of the frustrating things that I have encountered is that precise placement is an issue. I have had to use various hacks that I have learned over the years to get things where I want them. And some of the control settings are within the theme, some are within a particular plugin and some are within the editor itself. Overall, I am pleased with the Neve theme in that it renders well on a desktop as well as a phone.
So the gameplan is to try and get all of the above things done by the end of the year, then start shutting things down on the old site starting in 2024. I then hope to have the mikecalabrese.xyz site sunsetted by March 15, 2023. I will then renew the mikecalabrese.xyz domain for one more year and have it point to this site. After that, everything will be mikecalabrese.com . So I hope that you enjoy this new site. I have made the decision that there will be no ad banners on most of this site. I will have text ads on some pages. And the store will have product links as well as ad banners. Please patronize the advertisers on this site as the revenue generated from the various ads help to defray the cost of this website. Thanks.
