When I led a hike on this trail between Yates Ford RD and and the eastern terminus within Fountainhead Regional Park back in September, 2022 we discovered that the trail had been relocated shortly after it entered Fountain Head Regional Park near Fairfax Station, VA. This relocation was built by PATC and utilized the “lay of the land” trail building technique. This involved rebuilding the trail such that it went around mountains instead of over them. This made the trail much easier to hike but much longer.
This relo was well built, well designed and it was dual track. This type of trail is great for runners and bicyclists but not so for hikers. It took us about an hour longer than I anticipated to do this hike. So I have adjusted the BROT Distance Calculator by adding one mile to the easternmost point.
