I worked in the electronics business for about twenty years. During that time I was in sales and/or management in places like Radio Shack, Circuit City and a small independent named Sound City. I also had my own business as an independent sales rep and sold everything from telephone answering machines to video monitoring systems to occupency sensors. And I also worked for
selling commercial TV’s, satellite dishes/programming and clock radios to hotels, hospitals and businesses. What is amazing was that I left all of them with the exception of RCA voluntarily. I was laid off at RCA because they got sold and the buyer only wanted the accounts and the products. According to
Sony Music Entertainment and Vantiva own the rights to the RCA name and license it to other companies. So RCA Commercial Products still exists. But I’m not sure who owns them now. And all the rest of the businesses mentioned above went out of business eventually.
Yes, it was a tough way to make a living. But I did OK and I have a special place in my heart for the electronics business.
