I plan to do 3 more backpacking trips over the next 3 years and then hang up my backpack: Greenbrier River Trail, WV in 2024, Allegheny Trail, WV from Douglas to Canaan Valley Resort in 2025 and Allegheny Trail and Allegheny Trail/Greenbrier River Trail somewhere between Siefert and Cass, WV in 2026.
06/11-12/2024- It’s about a month until the 2024 Greenbrier River Trail Hike. A group of us did from miles 25 through 41 in 2002. I remember it as being very easy even though we were going north or upstream. What I would like to do if I can get one or two people for shuttle purposes, is to stage a vehicle at miles, 25, 15 and my vehicle at 3. We would start at mile 25 on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 and go south to mile 15. Those day hikers could leave at 15, those that were backpacking would go another 5 miles and camp at mile 10. According to the map, there is a shelter, a privy and potable water there. The next morning, Wednesday, June 12, 2024, we would hike south to Caldwell. According to
Lanterns, stoves and tripods are at UCO GearCaldwell is at mile 3 on this trail. That would only make it a 7 mile trip the second day. So you can either do a 10 mile day hike or a 22 mile backpack. Again this is all downhill and a rail trail. If I don’t get any takers, I will just start at Caldwell on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, hike 7 miles north to the shelter, stay overnight, then hike 7 miles back out on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. I’m open to providing shuttle service if someone wanted to go north instead.
