This RV campout occured between Friday, March 14, 2025 and Saturday, March 16, 2025. It was sponsored by
and was hosted by Bob and Vivian Drash.
Friday, March 14, 2025- I arrived at about 1:30 PM and spent the afternoon getting my RV called The Breeze all set up. The “coach” portion of my RV turned 20 years old in January. That is the part made by Ford. The “house” portion of my RV is 19 years old. It was made by Four Winds International, now part of Thor Industries, Inc. It was cloudy, high of 47 degrees, a bit windy and chilly. Verizon cell service had 4 bars and I picked up 24 OTA TV channels. Julie arrived at around 4:30. Since she was tired from work we just chilled, ate hot dogs for dinner and then retired.
Saturday, March 15, 2025- Our hosts cooked us up a fantastic pancake breakfast. We contributed blueberries so he made us blueberry pancakes. Very good. We also contributed granola and yogurt. It was still chilly, cloudy and breezy with highs in the upper forties. I initially wanted to go fishing in nearby Bull Run. However, I didn’t want to stand out in the cold wind to fish. So I gave the worms that I bought their freedom.
Around 12 noon I wanted to hike a section of the yellow trail that I had never hiked before. It supposedly started in the frisbee park, went west to a large parking area, then went around a group of soccer fields, got close to the shooting range, then went back to the campground loop. I’m not sure if I misread the map or the map was incorrect. I picked up the trail at the main park road and went through the frisbee golf park. I then took a left and immediately lost the trail. I only saw one faint yellow blaze. Then the trail went cold. According to Google maps, I was on the trail. But the only thing there were frisbee golf holes. When I got to the western side of the frisbee golf course there were massive blowdowns.
So I tried going back to the road but the foliage was too thick. So I bushwhacked through the woods and came across picnic pavillions 6 and 7. I didn’t see the blazes and the woods were too thick to enter. So I walked along the back of the open area hoping to see the trail in the woods. Nothing there. I came across a large parking area and pavillion 5. I found a small trail going to it but it had a huge blowdown across it. So I followed a road across a small bridge and saw a small sign that said horse trail. It was pointing toward an area that had RV storage on the left and commercial trailer storage on the right. I still didn’t see any yellow blazes. I was now close to the entrance gatehouse.
Since I was both tired and frustrated at this point, I made my way back to the main park road and just walked it back to the campground. When I got to the campstore I used the facilities, bought a Snickers bar and complained to the person behind the counter. He wrote down everything that I told him and said that he would pass it onto management. I then walked back to our RV and site 118. At least I got a 2.5 mile hike out of this venture. Though I would have liked to have done the loop instead. Check out the map at the link at the bottom of this page and tell me if you think that the map is confusing.
I got back to our site around 2ish. I took a nap, then did some stuff on the computer and watched TV. Around 6:00 PM we went back to our host’s site again for dinner. This time they made wedding soup and bagettes. We contributed cake, cheese cubes and sliced pepparoni. The meal was very good. There were a total of 8 RV’s at this group campout. They consisted of two Class C rigs, two class A’s, two 5th Wheel units and two travel trailers. A good mix.
Julie stayed for a group campfire. I went back to our RV and just chilled. Julie was worried about an upcoming storm midday Sunday so we worked to get everything prepped so that we could leave early Sunday morning before the storm.
Sunday, March 16, 2025- We got early, packed up and hit the road by 8:30 AM. We got home around 9:30 AM. This was a nice campout. The members of the Potomac Dogwoods are all very nice people. And I think that Bull Run Regional Park is a nice place to go. However, between the new RV site markers that were too small to read until you got very close as well as the blazing issues and blowdowns along the yellow trail, I’m going to have to give this park only three stars this time.

★★★P.S.- That storm never happened!
