We lost another fellow hiker and good friend today. Tom O’Brien and I hiked many miles with the Prince of Peace UMC Hiking Group between 2018 and 2022. Tom showed up for nearly every hike unless he and Jane were going on vacation or he was visiting his kids. In fact, the last hike that Tom and I did together was a 3 mile loop hike at Widewater State Park in Stafford, VA on September 3, 2022. Tom was the only one that showed up. We had a nice hike that day.
I stepped down from leading hikes in December, 2022. But I kept in touch with Tom. I last saw him at the local Food Lion in either May or June, 2024. He was optimistic about his treatment and confident that he would overcome his cancer. But he didn’t. I am very sad today.
